How to Hear God Speak to You

Once you set out to be a doer of the Word, revelation will come. It will continue to increase until you have trained your human spirit and are led by the Spirit of God so much that supernatural miracles will begin to flow in your life. How to Respond When God Speaks

Jesus and His plan will not only take you through, it will exalt and lift you up, settle, establish and perfect you. The fourth way to be led by the Spirit of God is to instantly respond to your spirit, but to do that you have to learn to recognize the inward witness.

When you develop and train your spirit by putting the first three steps into practice—meditating on the Word, practicing the Word, and putting the Word first place—your human spirit will become a safe guide for you. A man who is born again has become a new man in Christ Jesus, which is why his spirit is able to connect with the Holy Spirit. Train yourself up in the Word of God, and then tune into your spirit and obey what you hear immediately.

God wants us to be led by His Spirit, and He is going to use our own spirit to guide us. Then, you will operate in the perfect will of God. Do you want to hear God's voice? Then you must be ready to listen. Why do you want to hear God's voice? That may sound like a silly question, but motives are important in anything we do. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

If you do, it's possible you're hearing Him already, for He may be the one giving you the longing to hear Him. Packer says, "God has spoken to man, and the Bible is His Word, given to us to make us wise unto salvation. In another place, we read: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. You may hear people say that the Bible is just a book written by men, but the Bible itself claims to be God's Word! Can we rely on it? The evidence of history, archaeology, fulfilled prophecy and personal testimony over thousands of years is overwhelming that the Bible is, indeed, God's Word.

Then read the Bible.

Find a good daily reading plan, and stick to it. Hearing God's Voice through Prayer When you want to have a conversation with someone, how do you begin? Do you stand in front of the person and hope they will talk to you? That might work, if the other person is outgoing enough, but usually we begin a conversation by opening our own mouths and talking, engaging the other person's attention.

It's the same with God! He loves to hear us talk to Him, and it's in those moments that we prepare ourselves to hear the voice of God.

Once we've prepared our hearts to listen through prayer, we're more likely to hear the voice of God. Does He speak to us through an audible voice?

  • Some claim He does, but usually that's not the case. That means you can learn to know exactly what the Spirit of God is saying to you about every situation. Have you ever tried to watch television or listen to the radio without turning it on? Of course not! When you do turn them on, you fully expect to hear something! So, how do you check your spiritual receiver? The one way to know if your spiritual receiver is turned on is to answer this question:. So to hear Him, you have to tune in and listen carefully. He communicates from His Spirit to your spirit, and then your spirit communicates what you hear to your mind.

    That is what we call an inward witness. It is very similar to a thought or a prompting. It applies to whomever seeks Him diligently, spends time fellowshiping with Him through prayer, and obeys the commands in His Word. A receiver who is intact and ready to tune in to the voice of God is one who is expecting to hear from Him, and is willing to learn to know His voice.

    There was once a time when you had to work to tune in to a program on the radio or television set. You had to find the right frequency.

    You never questioned if it was broadcasting—you knew it was—but you had to do your part to find the frequency and tune in. Obedience in the simple things is very important to God—it reveals the willingness of you heart. He will talk to you about the small things in your life that you need to change—adjustments you need to make.

    God wants liberty and freedom for our lives, and that begins with training.
